DIY Mixing Palette For Makeup Ideas

Mixing makeup on the back of your hand is easy, but sometimes you need a bit more room or a surface to mix dry makeup on. (It’s just going to fall off your hand.) That’s where these DIY mixing palette for makeup ideas come in. Most of these are affordable, but there are some great DIY ideas out there so you don’t have to spend the extra cash if you don’t want to.

Make Sure It’s Clean

It can be tempting to simply grab a piece of cardboard and get to work. However, cardboard and other objects that are not clean can be harboring bacteria. The last thing you want is to wind up with a breakout because that bacteria made its way to your face. Instead, pick a surface that is easy to disinfect.

Consider What You’ll Be Mixing

You can use a flat surface for mixing liquids and creams. However, that can be a disaster if you’re attempting to combine two powder highlighters. In that situation, you’ll need something with slightly raised edges to help prevent a mess.

A quick look around your house can unveil all kinds of items that you can wash, disinfect and use for palettes. There are some ideas you can use to make that random piece of cardboard actually work too!

Cover Cardboard With Aluminum Foil

If you really don’t want to throw away that flat piece of cardboard that would make the perfect makeup mixing palette, then don’t. Instead, cover it with a piece of aluminum foil. Make sure that there are not any wrinkles, though. You can sanitize it with rubbing alcohol pads.

Use A Glass Plate

Glass plates typically have raised edges. This makes them ideal for mixing both liquid formulas and powder formulas. You can wash them and disinfect them after every use just like you would a stainless steel makeup mixing palette.

Grab An Old Picture Frame

The glass of the picture frame makes this a great option! It’s flat so you can disinfect it after using it. These are typically easy to hold. The only downside to using a picture frame is that powder can get between the glass and edge of the picture frame if you plan to mix powders together.

In Conclusion

If you’re mixing makeup together, such as mixing your highlighter with your foundation, sometimes the back of your hand just doesn’t provide the space that you need. This is especially true if you’re mixing up larger batches of makeup. In that case, use one of these DIY mixing palettes for makeup ideas! Check out this article for more cool makeup hacks!
