Building makeup on your beauty blender can make makeup application a disaster. Your foundation is more likely to streak. You won’t have an even application, either.

Not only can it destroy your makeup application, but makeup building up on a beauty blender can result in a build-up of bacteria. For a beauty blender to give you that airbrushed look we all love, you must use a damp blender. The moist sponge creates the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive. Then, that bacteria makes its way to your face and inside of your pores.

How Often Should I Clean My Beauty Blender

Ideally, you should be cleaning your beauty blender after every use. That’s why some people have so many of them. You toss the dirty ones in a separate bowl of makeup sponges that need cleaned and use a clean one. If you can’t clean it after every use, try to clean it as soon as possible. When you don’t, there can be a build-up of bacteria that can result in breakouts, infections, infected pimples, and more.

How To Clean Your Beauty Blender

There are many different ways to clean your beauty blender at home. There are home remedies for cleaning your beauty blender, products you can buy to do it for you, and quick fixes that require you to do almost nothing. Regardless of how much time you have or money, one of these will work wonderfully for you.

Soap And Water In The Sink

Using this method, you’ll wash the makeup sponge just like you would dishes. You get the blender wet. Then, put a drop of dish soap on your sponge. Next, rub your sponge and rinse. When you rinse, and the water is clean, so is your sponge. You can also use baby shampoo.

Throw It In The Washer

This is an easy way to clean a beauty blender and a great way to clean multiple beauty blenders. I have not used this method yet, but it seems exceptionally efficient, so it’s definitely on my list. Throw your beauty blenders in a mesh laundry bag and toss them in the washer.

Be careful not to use a harsh soap like your laundry soap. Tide or Gain might not be ideal for this. Instead, put a few drops of natural dish soap or baby soap into the washer in place of laundry detergent. It’s also essential to make sure that you use a delicate wash cycle so that your beauty blenders don’t fall apart.

How To Clean A Beauty Blender In The Microwave

According to studies, the microwave can kill bacteria. This makes it an excellent method to help you disinfect your beauty blender.

To use this method, get out a coffee mug, and fill it with water. Then, add a couple of drops of soap and mix well. Then, add your makeup sponge to the water and put the cup in the microwave for approximately one minute.

It is generally safe to do this, but it’s essential to remember that this isn’t all you should be doing to clean your makeup sponge. The microwave kills some bacteria. It does nothing to remove the excess product that stays on your beauty blender. Some of it will wash away from being in the cup of water, but not all of it.

You still need to deep clean your makeup sponge with soap and water to remove excess oil, and bacteria that weren’t killed in the microwave and get rid of extra makeup on the sponge.

TIPS FOR MICROWAVING YOUR BEAUTY BLENDER: Make sure that it’s completely submerged in water. If it isn’t, it can do serious damage to your beauty blender. There’s a chance that it can melt, and you won’t be able to use it anymore.

You also need to be careful when you remove your makeup sponge from the water. It can be hot.

Don’t Use Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is an excellent disinfectant. That leads to most people thinking it’s a great idea to use on their makeup sponge. However, your makeup sponge absorbs everything. That’s why people tend to use more products when they use beauty blenders.

If you use rubbing alcohol, there’s a chance that it could remain on your makeup sponge. If you then rub it across your face, it can irritate your skin.

If you want a deeper clean, don’t try the microwave hack. Instead, you want to use hot water and soap to wash your makeup sponge. Then, after it dries, use the microwave to kill any bacteria left on the sponge.

Make Sure That You Let It Air Dry

After you wash your beauty blender, give it plenty of time to air dry. Don’t throw it in your makeup bag right away. (Makeup bags aren’t a great place to store makeup sponges.) Instead, lay it on a towel or sit it in your holder for the night to let it dry.

Consider Letting Your Sponge Soak Overnight

For incredibly stubborn stains, you want to pick up some cleanser. Add a few drops of cleanser to a mixture of water and baby shampoo. Then, let your beauty blender soak overnight.
