Pros Of Illamasqua Hydra Veil

Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer is packed with positive ingredients that are designed to nourish dry, dehydrated skin and give you a wealth of benefits.

Evens Skin Tone

This gel formula is specially designed to help even your skin tone. It works just like other mattifying primers do to reduce redness and the appearance of discolorations. While it doesn’t have a color corrector, it definitely does it’s part to treat/cover hyperpigmentation.

Can Be Worn By Itself

You don’t have to wear a full face of glam makeup to wear this gel formula. In fact, you can use it without foundation application. Simply use this primer as your moisturizer for the day and head out the door!

Great For Sensitive Skin

Soothing plant extracts help this primer instantly calm down angry skin. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin and doesn’t have harsh irritants that will make you break out later. I have sensitive skin, and it works amazingly well!

Moisturizing

Whether you have oily skin, combination, or dry skin, you’re instantly going to feel a dose of hydration when you apply this primer. It soaks into your skin in mere seconds to leave your skin feeling smooth and hydrated. It’s truly impressive just how well the gel formula works!

No Scent

Although fragrance is listed on the ingredients, there is no scent to this primer. If you’re not a fan of fragrance in your makeup, products like this one were made for you.

Smooths Unwanted Texture

Textured skin is less than ideal for make-up application. Hydra Veil Primer by Illamasqua helps eliminate unwanted texture to give you a healthy-looking, balanced finish that you will love. You can easily use it by itself to give your complexion a boost!

Absorbs Quickly Into Skin

The one downside about some primers is that they give you a healthy-looking, balanced finish, but you have to wait forever for them to dry. Sometimes, the perfect base and moisturized skin leave you sitting in front of your vanity waiting on it to dry. It’s like putting on a skincare product that is too thick.

That doesn’t happen with this product. You get a perfect base in under a minute. Simply apply a thin coat, do your eye makeup, and it will be absorbed into your skin when you’re done.

Cons Of Illamasqua Hydra Veil

Although there are quite a few great things about using this product as a base for makeup, there are a few downsides to keep in mind.

There’s A Learning Curve For Application

The product comes with a little spoon to scoop out the primer. This sounds ideal for the jelly texture, but it’s actually a bit of a hassle. If you use a brush, the gel gets all over it, and it absorbs so quickly that it makes it pointless even to use a brush. The best way to apply this is to dip your fingers in the gel and rub it into your skin like you would if you were using complexion products. Make sure that you rub it in quickly before it is absorbed by the skin on your hand.

If you do use your hands to apply the primer, make sure that your hands have been washed with antibacterial soap. The gel tends to mold back together in the container, so any contaminants that are in the gel will be evenly distributed throughout the rest of the product. This can cause breakouts and irritation later on down the road.

Zero Coverage

This primer is thin and clear. While it does work to help balance an uneven skin tone and minimize the appearance of pores like complexion products do, it should be noted that it doesn’t provide any level of coverage for discoloration.

One More Thing…

It’s important to note that this is a water based product. Because of that, you’re not going to see the same results that you would with a silicone based product. You also need to keep in mind that Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer is not going to be compatible with silicone based foundations and makeup. If you use the two together, you might find that your makeup isn’t staying put as it does with other primers.

The Verdict

If you have dry skin and need a new primer, this one is it. You’ll love the mattifying effect that it has, the way it helps your makeup last for hours, and the instant dose of hydration it delivers. Your dry, patchy areas will slowly fade away after application. You can pick some up on the Illamasqua website.
