We’ve all heard of Makeup Eraser by now. If not, it’s time to learn about it. This miracle cloth claims to erase your makeup using only warm water. It gives you the option of ditching your makeup remover. Harsh cleansers that are necessary to strip away makeup can also go in the trash. It removes basic makeup, like your foundation, and it also claims to remove stubborn makeup, like waterproof mascara. It seems too good to be true, but I couldn’t resist trying it out.
The Makeup Eraser arrived in a tiny little box. It was nothing out of the ordinary. The cloth itself also doesn’t look like anything special. I selected the black one. It was slightly over a foot long and felt like a soft plushie. It was already hard to believe that this glamourous washcloth could remove every ounce of makeup with nothing but warm water and small, circular motions.
The cloth is supposed to exfoliate your face too. That’s what the side with longer fibers is for. I was highly doubtful, but the product lives up to most of its claims. Check out my complete Makeup Eraser review to discover everything you need to know.

What Is The Original Makeup Eraser
The original Makeup Eraser is a cloth that is 100% polyester. The creator of this makeup-removing cloth says that the hairs are so fine they are finer than human hair, resulting in them working like suction cups to remove makeup from your face.
How Does Makeup Eraser Work
To use this cloth, you need to throw it in the washing machine first. That’s the best way to avoid getting tiny pieces of fuzz all over your face. This is especially true with black cloth. I tried it on my arm first, leaving plenty of fuzz. After a quick wash and dry, I could enjoy it without getting black lint all over my face.
When you’re ready to use it, wet it with lukewarm water. Then, wipe it in gentle circles all over your face until your makeup disappears! The short-haired side is for removing makeup. It’s the side with the tag on it.
Every night, use a different piece of cloth. Throw it in the washer when it’s dirty, then use it again. Each cloth lasts an average of 3-5 years.
Opt for the seven-day sets if you want to use a new one every night. The cloths are smaller, but you don’t need a large one if you plan to use a new one daily.
It’s important to remember that polyester tends to repel water. Because of that, you’ll have to dunk the cloth in warm water and move it around with your hands as if trying to create a lather. Then, ring it out to get rid of excess water. You may have to wet it again before you finish your entire face. I typically use mine in the shower, so it’s not too inconvenient if I have to rewet it or there’s extra water dripping.
Does Makeup Eraser Work
Yes! It removed all of my makeup, including waterproof mascara. However, I read some reviews saying that other users had difficulty removing their mascara, so it may depend on the brand you use. Aside from that minor detail, it delivers the miracles it claims to.
I wanted to test this one out, so I layered makeup on my face, complete with full-coverage foundation, blocky dark eyebrows, and darker lipstick. Then, I topped it off with setting spray and waited for the makeup to set.
After that, I went to work slowly rubbing Makeup Eraser in circles over my face. I did have to stop a couple of times to re-wet it. However, the results were excellent! It didn’t smear or smudge my makeup across my face. It was both gentle and effective.
I do see why some people with sensitive skin might not like it. The redness in this following picture is just there for now (it’s not from Makeup Eraser), but if you scrub hard to remove layers of makeup and have extremely sensitive skin, it might cause some irritation.
Makeup Eraser Pros Vs. Cons
One of the best things about this product is its machine washable. It’s so sustainable that you will never have to purchase another makeup remover wipe or makeup removal product again if you don’t want to. You also don’t have to purchase more than one unless you want to check out the different designs or don’t want to do laundry every few days.
Various Designs Available
Speaking of designs, you’re going to love the options available. We were long restricted to black, purple, and Barbie pink. You can enjoy cool designs like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Spongebob, Hello Kitty, or a neutral-colored set. The company releases new designs for most holidays.
Removes All Makeup, Including Eye Makeup
There’s nothing worse than using makeup wipes to scrub your eyes to get off stubborn makeup remover. Eye makeup remover works, but it’s an extra step before cleansing every night. When you’ve had a long day, it’s an extra step that you don’t want to deal with. With a Makeup Eraser, you don’t have to worry about that. It’s designed to take away every trace of makeup, and it’s gentle on your eye area.
However, with the layers of makeup, primer, etc., that most of us use, it will take more than a simple wipe to remove every trace of eye makeup. Instead, you’ll rub it in tiny circles longer than expected so it comes off.
Suitable For All Skin Types
It doesn’t matter whether you have combination skin, sensitive skin, oily skin, or dry skin, this beautiful cloth will work wonders. It doesn’t irritate my skin when it’s dry. Some people with a sensitive type report that it irritates their skin when they use it without makeup. However, this tends to vary depending on the person.
It Can Be Used With A Cleanser
An exfoliating towel is not designed to replace your facial cleanser, so ignore the reviews from people saying they still need a cleanser. This is designed to replace your makeup remover. However, after you use it to take off makeup, you can also use the wet cloth with your cleanser.
The cloth is made from antibacterial polyester. That means that you don’t have to worry about spreading bacteria all over your face if you use it two days in a row. Because of this, other makeup products, such as makeup brushes, are supposed to be washed after every use. That isn’t the case with this little beauty.
If there’s one thing I hate about a little cotton pad, it’s the size. You wind up using one cotton pad after another to remove makeup. I can put my whole hand on this and rub it on my face quickly. It’s just one more way that the Makeup Eraser is convenient for any beauty routine.
It Can Be Used With Makeup Remover
If you still want to use your micellar water, you can keep that part of your beauty routine. Pour it onto the cloth, and remove your makeup as usual. You’ll discover that it comes off easier and with almost no tugging on your skin!
It Doesn’t Smear Your Makeup
One of the things I detest about makeup remover wipes is that a darker color eyeshadow will wind up halfway across your face while you’re attempting to take it off, resulting in scrubbing the delicate skin on your face. Even cotton balls can do this with certain products. That’s not the case with this!
The polyester fibers on the short-fiber side work like tiny suction cups to gently remove every trace of makeup, leaving your makeup all over the hair-like fibers, not on your face.
The hair-like fibers on the side with the tag are shorter, even though you can’t see the difference. The hair-like fibers on the other side comprise the long-fiber side, which can be used to exfoliate the face.
Eliminates Makeup Wipes
Makeup wipes are known for being a wasteful product. Some are full of harsh chemicals that strip your skin of natural oils while removing makeup. These single-use makeup wipes are not sustainable, and you’re more likely to break out if you have sensitive skin. That’s where Makeup Eraser saves the day. They reduce waste because they are sustainable and gentle on the skin.
Can Be Rough On Sensitive Skin
It can be tempting to use it to exfoliate your face instead of breaking out the scrubs, but several people with sensitive skin claim the long-fiber side irritates them. If your skin is extremely sensitive, use the hair-like fibers to remove makeup, stick with a gentle cleanser, and exfoliate the rest of the time.
It’s Unrealistic To Use The Same Cloth For Days On End
The company claims that you can use it for days and use a clean part of the cloth each night. This may work for you if you don’t wear much makeup. However, if you wear a full face of makeup, you’ll find yourself washing it every couple of days to avoid makeup buildup.
On top of that, even if you want to leave it in the shower for several days, it doesn’t take long for the liquid foundation all over the towel to start to smell.
However, that doesn’t mean that it’s not for you. If you wear a full face of makeup daily, consider picking up the seven-day set for around $25. You can use one to wash away makeup and then toss it in the laundry.
Things To Remember About The Makeup Eraser
The Makeup Eraser seems pretty simple to use, and it is! It lives up to its claims of removing makeup and being sustainable. Mine has been thrown the washer a few times, and it’s holding up perfectly. However, there are a few things you need to keep in mind before you pick one up.
Avoid Rubbing Too Hard
Rubbing too hard with the cloth on your face can result in tears on the skin. This is also true when it comes to rubbing anything on your face. It’s essential to use gentle, circular motions to remove makeup a little bit at a time to avoid irritation. Using gentle swipes when removing eye makeup, like eye shadow, is especially important.
You Need Somewhere To Hang It
If you plan on using this little miracle towel for more than one day, which most people who buy The Original Makeup Eraser do, you’ll need somewhere to hang it between uses. That means the towel rack or an extra shower hook.
The Hotter The Water, The Better It Works
You don’t want to use hot water to remove your makeup because that isn’t good for your face. However, the warmer the water is, the easier it is to remove your makeup. If you notice that it’s tugging too hard on your skin, try adjusting the temperature slightly.
The Final Verdict
If you’re ready to switch up your makeup routine in favor of something more sustainable or just tired of buying makeup wipes, this is an excellent option! You’ll save money in the long run and quickly discover that this option is better for your skin.
While you can’t toss it in your makeup drawer like a pack of wipes, you can quickly put it on a towel rack or hook in your shower.
If your everyday makeup is the bare minimum, a standard-sized Original Makeup Eraser will be great. If your everyday makeup consists of a primer, foundation, face makeup, eye makeup, lipstick, etc. daily, consider picking up a 7-day set. You can toss your dirty Makeup Eraser in the laundry basket at the end of the day and wash it with the next load of laundry.
