Almay Eyeshadow Trio Review: One Of The Best Drugstore Brands?

almay eyeshadow

Almay is touted as one of the best drugstore brands on the market. It can easily rival popular brands like Maybelline. One of their more popular products is the Almay Eyeshadow Trio. Each palette has three different colors. One is for your lid, another for your crease, and one for the area between your crease and eyebrow. You can also use the colors to create a great smokey eye look! Does it live up to the hype, though? Find out in this Almay eyeshadow review.

How To Apply Almay Eyeshadow Trios

Starting at the bottom of the tiny palette, use the first color to add a burst of color to your eyelid. Then, using a crease brush, slide the next color along your crease. Complete the look by putting the final color up to your eyebrow. These eyeshadow trios come in beautiful color combinations that help you create an eyeshadow look without browsing through multiple palettes for the perfect colors.

Almay Eyeshadow Trio Pros Vs. Cons

While Almay Eyeshadow Trios come with plenty of advantages, there are also a few disadvantages you’ll need to consider before clicking the buy now button. As always, read plenty of reviews from people who have previously purchased a product. Then, decide if it’s the right decision for you.

There are so many pros about this eyeshadow it’s hard to believe it’s a drugstore brand! It can rival some of my makeup collection’s more expensive eyeshadow palettes. You’ll love how blendable and buildable Almay eyeshadow is.

Some cheaper eyeshadows, and even professional-grade palettes, aren’t blendable. For example, a palette I received from Lovecraft Beauty. The colors did not blend. Instead, I had to layer them on top of each other to make it work. That won’t be a concern with Almay’s eyeshadow. It’s almost as easy to blend as a cream eyeshadow.

This is one of the most affordable eyeshadows on the market. You’ll only spend about $5 for one Almay Eyeshadow Trio. You can’t beat the price for an instant look you’ll love.

Easily Achievable Looks

I love my palettes geared toward seasons and holidays, but creating a look with specific palettes can be challenging. Almay takes the complication out of finding the perfect shade or color by giving you three colors that instantly look well together. You can use a single color for a quick eyeshadow look, create a smokey eye with two, or wear them as you’re supposed to by using all three. No matter how you wear them, you can trust that you will look amazing.

This eyeshadow is not so powdery that you’ll have difficulty creating looks by layering colors. It’s designed to be layered, making it one of the most buildable drugstore eyeshadows. This earns it a spot on your vanity.

Great For Sensitive Skin

Almay Eyeshadow Trios are hypoallergenic. They won’t irritate your eyes, even if you’re used to having itchy eyes that can barely tolerate makeup. Instead, you can’t feel it on your face.

While this eyeshadow has many great things, such as the price, there are a few downsides. There are simply certain aspects about Almay Eyeshadow Trios that I’m not a fan of. Make sure to consider these as well before picking one up.

Limited Staying Power

If you’re going to use this eyeshadow by itself, it won’t stay all day. I’m a single mother, and I prefer to do my makeup once in the morning. I don’t have the time to stop in the middle of the day to touch it up, so I prefer makeup that can keep up.

It requires a primer and setting spray to make Almay Eyeshadow Trios work. My Urban Decay setting spray helps it stay in place for most of the day. However, if I were to go out at night and wanted to wear the same eyeshadow, I would have to re-apply it.

Lighter Colors Are Not Very Pigmented

For some, this can be a huge advantage. Not having highly pigmented light colors provides a more natural look. However, that can affect whether the look fades away during the day. The colors not being very pigmented also means that your look isn’t going to stand out like it would with other brands.

However, that’s not a total deal breaker. Check out this article on how to make eyeshadow more pigmented to get the most out of your Almay eyeshadow!

Limited Availability In Certain Areas

You used to be able to find Almay Eyeshadow Trios every time you popped into Walmart or a CVS. Now, that isn’t always the case. You’ll find a limited selection in brick-and-mortar stores, and you might not be able to find what you’re looking for at the local drugstore.

If you prefer to shop in person, this is a huge downside. However, if you don’t mind online shopping, you can always find what you want on Amazon. There is a large variety of Almay Eyeshadow Trios, including some discontinued shades.

Almay Is Not Cruelty-Free

Almay may test on animals. If they do not directly test on animals, they may through a third-party supplier. This brand as a whole is not cruelty-free, so keep in mind that this does not merely apply to their eyeshadow trios.

Almay Is Not Vegan

This brand also does not produce vegan makeup. While some claim that they are not vegan because they allow their products to be tested on animals, there are other ways that they are not vegan. For example, one of the coloring additives they add to makeup is comprised of crushed-up bugs. There is nothing vegan about that.

The Verdict
